Thermogenesis is essentially a fancy word for TDEE. Saying that a product will increase thermogenesis is like saying it will increase your TDEE - which would mean that you burn more calories per day. There is good evidence that until 9,000 years ago in the Middle East 1 and 7,000 years ago in Northern Europe,2 people did not consume non-human milk or dairy products.

Doctors Prescribed Diet pills and their affects

The Federal Food and Drug Adminstration has issued an urgent recall after it was discovered that a supposedly herbal diet pill contained the prescription-only medication Reductil and ingredients believed to cause cancer.

The slimming tablets are called Pai You Guo and are manufactured by GMP Herbal Products. The FDa carried out laboratory analysis on the product, which showed that the though not declared on the ingredient list, the product contained phenolphthalein,  a solution once used in chemical experiments and associated with an increased risk of cancer. It has not been approved for sale in the U.S.

The drugs also contained sibutramine, the medical name for Reductil tablets. Reductil is widely prescribed to help the obese lose weight but should only be used with a doctor's supervisio n as it can significantly increase blood pressure and when taken by patients with a history of cardiovascular disease or stroke can present a significant risk.

The product, offered to customers as a way to encourage rapid weight loss, was sold in boxes containing 30 capsules or in 10g bags of powder.  They were distributed over the internet.

You can certainly control diabetes effectively with a good 'diet plan' which must include only minimal amounts of simple sugars (sweets) and simple carbohydrates (like white flour products). You now need to eat 'complex' carbohydrates such as wholegrain products (with plenty of fibre), vegetables (but not potatoes), beans and pulses (chickpeas, lentils and peas). Also, you need to change your eating habits by eating frequent smaller sized meals.  This will mean there will be smaller rises in your blood sugar levels after eating smaller sized meals (instead of  really big rises in blood glucose if you have only one or two really heavy (big) meals a day).  So, you should eat more of fresh vegetables and fruits while reducing the intake of white flour (although brown (wholemeal) flour is good), reduce white rice (although wholegrain brown rice is good) and foods high in fat (especially those with a lot of trans and saturated fats!). Avoid the intake of excessive oil and try to use olive oil instead of other form
s of oils.  Even people who don't have diabetes should follow this eating plan as it is healthy and may even prevent the onset of diabetes!
